The International Orienteering Federation at the WMOC 2022 presentation at the Expolevante in Bari
On the 21st of April the World Masters Orienteering Championships were presented at the Expolevante in Bari, organized by the Italian Federation of Sport Orientation and the Organizing Committee WMOC with the support of Regione Puglia-Asset. In addition to the fundamental collaboration of the 14 Municipalities of the Gargano, with Vieste and Peschici leader of the project, the event also boasts the patronage of the Puglia Region and the Province of Foggia.
The meeting was held on the occasion of the IOF Commission visit, represented by advisors David May and Tulla Spinelli, which will continue in the coming days with an inspection on the competition fields.
Also present at the appointment Sergio Anesi, FISO President, Michele Barbone, WMOC Committee President, Sandro Passante, General Manager ASSET Puglia Region, Marino Pellico, Regional Delegate FISO Puglia, Eustacchio Lionetti, WMOC Committee member, Gabriele Viale, WMOC Event Director, Tommaso Scalet, WMOC Vice Event Director, and Simone Grassi, FISO advisor.
“The idea of hosting the World Championships in Puglia dates back ten years ago – said Elio Sannicandro, Director General of ASSET Puglia Region, who also brought greetings from the President of the Puglia Region Michele Emiliano – A dream that will finally become reality from the 8th to the 16th of July with athletes from all over the world. A special thanks to FISO that will be able to welcome the participants in the best possible way, together with the Region and all the Municipalities involved. We are also working on the planning of cultural initiatives to accompany the calendar and on the synergy with European projects, such as the Silvanus Project, aimed at the landscape protection of the Umbra Forest and the Gargano, which the orienteering is helping us to promote and enhance“.
